Marketing Your Business in a Slow Economy PDF Print Bookmark and Share

February 18, 2009 – Marketing your business in a slow economy can pose quite a challenge to a business used to spending hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars each year on advertisement.  It is even more challenging to a new or small business.  This is where social media and social network marketing comes into play.

Online Social Media and Social Network marketing is the solution because it will do two things for your company.  The hard work you put in it now will always be available to market your business in the future and it will also help you climb the SEO keyword ladder.

They are several online social media websites out there that get millions of visitors every month.  Each one of these visitors is a source of potential revenue for your business.

The first is the “create your own page” type of social network like Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com.

Squidoo.com gets over 490,000 visitors a day and Hubpages.com gets a total of 8 million unique visitors a month which makes them both prime candidates for your company´s advertisement.

Creating your own page on these two websites is easy and overtime rewarding.  They are also great because you can add as much text content that you want about a specific topic to attract people to it thru their website´s search option and even search engines.

The more text content and useful information you have on these pages the better.  On top of that, you are able to use your company´s URL as a source which will not only help your SEO but will bring targeted secondary traffic to your website

However, it is not all about making the page.  The hard part is making your page in these social media popular to bring your page a lot of visitors.  This is done thru joining groups, taking part in the forum and commenting on other people´s page.

Once your page becomes popular and perhaps makes it to the front page, you will begin to receive a large amount of visitor to your website thru a trickle-down effect.

The second is the social network type like Facebook.com, MySpace, and LinkedIn.com.  These social networks alone boast over 200 million members which is a large potential client base.

Creating a profile however is not enough to bring clients to your business.  You actually have to work a few hours a week on your profile and make is as popular as possible.

This is done by simply talking to other people, sending messages to them, posting in the forum, commenting on other member´s posts, joining groups that could be interested in your product and basically taking part in the online community

Once all of this is done and you have several confirmed friends, you can start advertising to them by sending out messages to all of your friends and groups as well as posting messages in your group´s message board.

It will initially be a lot of work but once you have gotten yourself about 10,000 friends that is 10,000 people you can advertise to!
