February 11, 2009 – Marketing your Advertising, website Design, Website Programming and SEO Company is like any other marketing job you may have with another business.  It is about gaining the trust of potential clients and telling them a story that they will believe in.

However, a story without any truth behind it will sooner or later catch up to your company and hurt your company on the long run.  This is why that any marketing company must market their portfolio to inspire trust.

Here are the steps needed to make your portfolio pages on your website credible.

First, the work you have done must be shown in the portfolio with a description of the work done.  Whenever possible, use images since images are a very powerful marketing tool.

Second, include a way for the viewer to contact your old clients as a reference.  It can be done by just adding the text, “To get a list of contact references, please email us.”  Also make sure that a clickable link is available for the viewer to go to your client´s website.

Third, include for each project description the amount of time it took you to accomplish these results or the marketing goals.  For example, if you did SEO for a client, include the top SEO results and how long it took you to get the top SERP positioning.

Fourth, the presentation must look professional and show how you do your work.  The more clients you have in your portfolio the better but keep in mind that the main page of your portfolio should only show an example or 2 of each work category and then have an option to see your whole portfolio by category as to not overwhelm the viewer with information.

Fifth, market your services by getting your clients to add a link to your website stating that you provided the marketing, SEO, website programming or website design services for them.

Once all of this is in place, you can market your portfolio by adding them to your advertising by adding a story on how your clients were ecstatic with your work thru their testimonials.

Testimonials are very important to credibility.  Especially if potential clients are able to contact the writer of these testimonials and you invite them to contact them.  In general, most of your viewers will ignore those testimonials but the ones that do read them will take it into consideration.

Just keep in mind that you are trying to tell them a story about the superiority of your professional marketing services.  Meaning that it has to look professional and not like a cheap late night infomercial.
